Abstract

Sebanyak 85 ribu ton kantong kresek per tahun terbuang begitu saja ke lautan Indonesia. Hal ini memprihatinkan karena kantong kresek seiring waktu akan lapuk dan terpecah-pecah menjadi mikroplastik yang dapat membahayakan makhluk hidup laut. Salah satu upaya untuk mengurangi sampah adalah dengan melakukan upcycle sehingga menjadi produk yang berguna dan meningkatkan value material. Sehubungan dengan itu, minat konsumen terhadap produk sustainable fashion juga mengalami peningkatan beberapa tahun belakang ini. Salah satu teknik yang digunakan untuk upcycle kantong kresek adalah dengan teknik heatpress, yaitu dengan memberikan panas dan tekanan pada lembaran kresek sehingga menjadi lembaran material baru yang lebih kuat. Teknik ini berpotensial untuk dijadikan produk tas karena karakteristik materialnya yang fleksibel, kuat, dan memiliki tekstur yang khas. Namun, perlakuan lanjutan material upcycle kantong kresek belum tereksplorasi lebih lanjut. Pada perancangan ini, dilakukan eksplorasi lanjutan terhadap material upcycle kantong kresek dengan teknik penanganan material lembaran, serta pengaplikasiannya pada produk tas untuk wanita berumur 40-50 tahun, dengan konsep “Preppy”, “Timeless”, dan “Craftmanship” dengan tujuan untuk meningkatkan nilai estetika dan nilai jual.

85 thousand tons of plastic bags per year are thrown into the Indonesian ocean. It is concerning because plastic bags will decay over time and break down into microplastics which can harm marine life. Upcycling is one of the ways to reduce plastic waste to turn into useful products and increase material value. In this regard, consumer interest in sustainable fashion products has also increased in recent years. One of the techniques used to upcycle plastic bags is the heatpress technique, which is applying heat and pressure to plastic bags, so they become stronger sheet material. This technique has the potential to be used as a bag material because its characteristics are flexible, strong and have a unique texture. However, the treatment of upcycled plastic bag sheet material has not been explored further. In this design process, further exploration was carried out on upcycling plastic bag sheet materials using various techniques, as well as its application to bag products targetted for women aged 40-50 years, with the concepts of "Preppy", "Timeless", and "Craftmanship" with the aim of increasing value aesthetics and selling value.
