Abstract

Keterkaitan antara materialitas dan immaterialitas dalam perkembangan arsitektur menciptakan landasan teoretis yang substansial. Kajian tentang unsur-unsur material dan imaterial dalam bidang arsitektur mulai berkembang pada abad ke-19, walaupun dalam praktiknya imaterial secara tidak sadar telah diterapkan. Tujuan utama penelitian ini adalah memahami peranan material dan imaterial dalam konteks arsitektur modern, dengan mengacu pada teori-teori Gernot Bohme dan Juhani Pallasmaa. Kedua teori tersebut menekankan pentingnya pengalaman manusia terhadap ruang dan bagaimana hal itu mempengaruhi persepsi terhadap arsitektur. Setiap orang merasakan sesuatu yang berbeda melalui satu ruang (space), karena karakternya yang unik. Kita menggunakan kata “ruang” atau “space” lebih mirip dengan “tempat” atau “place”. Rasa itu dapat tercipta melalui cara arsitek mendesain unsur material dan imaterial dalam menciptakan atmosfer tertentu. Pada Tugas Akhir ini akan diteliti bagaimana penataan unsur material dan imaterial dapat menciptakan healing atmosphere dengan mengambil konteks urban yang memiliki lingkungan padat dan ramai.

The relationship between materiality and immateriality in the development of architecture creates a substantial theoretical foundation. The study of material and immaterial elements in the field of architecture began to develop in the 19th century, although in practice immateriality had already been unconsciously applied. The main objective of this research is to understand the role of material and immaterial in the context of modern architecture, with reference to the theories of Gernot Bohme and Juhani Pallasmaa. Both theories emphasize the importance of the human experience of space and how it affects the perception of architecture. Each person experiences something different through a space, due to its unique character. We use the word "space" more like "place". That sense can be created through the way architects design material and immaterial elements in creating a certain atmosphere. This Final Project will investigate how the arrangement of material and immaterial elements can create a healing atmosphere by taking an urban context that has a dense and crowded environment.
