Abstract

Erosion is the event of soil surface movement caused by the displacement of the soil surface influenced by several factors, namely: water, wind, gravity, and glaciers. This soil surface displacement can be quantified in terms of the erosion rate value. The commonly used modeling of erosion rate values is indeed limited to modeling the rate of erosion caused by water, such as sheet erosion, gully erosion, and several other types of erosion. High and uncontrolled erosion rates can lead to the loss of soil fertility and the accumulation of thick sediment in rivers and streams, which ultimately can cause disasters such as floods. In this study, erosion rate calculations were performed using the RUSLE (Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation) method in the Brantas River Basin (Administrative Boundary of Surabaya City) using several types of data, including Surabaya City's rainfall for the year 2022 over 12 months, Sentinel 2A satellite imagery, slope obtained from DEMNAS, and soil texture. Processing of the above four data types resulted in five parameters: erosivity factor (R), erodibility factor (K), slope length factor (LS), cover management factor (C), and conservation practice factor (P). From the calculations performed, it was found that the average erosion rate in the Brantas River Basin (Administrative Boundary of Surabaya) is 32,714 tons/Ha/year. If referring to the classification of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry regarding erosion hazard classes, the erosion rate in the Brantas River Basin (administrative area of Surabaya City) falls into the “light” hazard class
