Abstract

Central Java Province is known as the province with the largest industrial sector in Indonesia. The Central Bureau of Statistics noted that Central Java occupies the first position with the number of industrial centres reaching 859,747 centres. With so many industrial activities, it will certainly attract people who need jobs to migrate to Central Java. As a result, problems involving population activities occur, one of which is air pollution. The average NO2 air pollution load of districts/cities in Central Java reached 55.27 μg/m3 while the national ambient air quality standard (1-year measurement) for NO2 is 50 μg/m³. So to reduce air pollution, it is necessary to analyse the factors that are thought to affect air pollution so that more targeted action can be taken based on these factors. By using Multiple Linear Regression, it was found that the variables of number of public transport, forest area, percentage of firewood users, number of gasoline users, number of gasoil users, and area height have an influence on NO2 levels in Central Java. In fact, the proportion of variability of predictor variables can explain 56.60% of NO2 levels, while the remaining 43.40% is explained by other variables outside the model. It is hoped that these results can be used as a consideration for designing or evaluating government policies in addressing air pollution problems in Central Java.
