Abstract

Unemployment is an issue of economic and social problems encountered in many countries, including Indonesia. Unemployment is a condition in which a person does not have a job and is looking for work. Based on the publication of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) the number of unemployed in West Java is 2.13 million people which is 25.3% of the total number of unemployed people in Indonesia of 8.42 million people. That number is almost double the number of unemployed in East Java. Job opportunities in West Java are very broad, which is reflected in the number of approximately 668 companies. However, according to the Ministry of Manpower and Apindo, the number of layoffs in West Java reached 77,000. The high layoffs also led to an increasing number of unemployed in West Java. Therefore, an analysis was carried out regarding the factors suspected of influencing the number of unemployed in West Java. Each region has distinct characteristics related to employment and the economy, allowing variables influencing the unemployment rate in each district/city to vary. To accommodate this, the Geographically Weighted Negative Binomial Regression (GWNBR) method is used. The research results indicate that the highest unemployment rate comes from Bogor Regency, while the lowest is from Banjar Regency. Modeling using GWNBR results in four groups based on the similarity of significant influencing variables. Gross Regional Domestic Product (PDRB), the number of micro and small businesses, and domestic capital investment have a significant global impact.
