Abstract
Kanker payudara adalah jenis kanker yang terjadi ketika sel-sel ganas tumbuh di dalam jaringan payudara tepatnya di saluran susu atau lobulus (kelenjar penghasil air susu). Kanker payudara termasuk dalam kanker ganas dan memiliki angka kejadian tertinggi didunia. Pengobatan alternatif kanker payudara dapat dilakukan dengan terapi fotodinamika (PDT). PDT menunjukkan efek samping toksik yang jauh lebih rendah karena fotosensitizer (PS) terakumulasi dalam konsentrasi yang jauh lebih tinggi pada sel kanker daripada sel normal. PS yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini terbuat dari bahan alami yaitu kunyit melalui proses ekstraksi dengan metode maserasi. Melalui pembuatan PS melalui ekstraksi kunyit menghasilkan turmerone dengan panjang gelombang absorbansi maksimum 400-500 nm. Hasil ini memberikan potensi PS untuk pengobatan kanker payudara dengan menggunakan PDT dari bahan alami kunyit.

Breast cancer is a type of cancer that occurs when malignant cells grow in the breast tissue, specifically in the milk ducts or lobules (milk-producing gldans). Breast cancer is included in malignant cancer and has the highest incidence rate in the world. Alternative treatment for breast cancer can be done with photodynamic therapy (PDT). PDT shows much lower toxic side effects because photosensitizers (PS) accumulate in much higher concentrations in cancer cells than normal cells. The PS used in this study was made from natural ingredients, namely turmeric through an extraction process using the maceration method. Through the manufacture of PS through turmeric extraction, turmerone with a maximum absorbance wavelength of 400-500 nm was produced. These results provide the potential for PS for the treatment of breast cancer using PDT from natural turmeric ingredients.
