Abstract

The oil and gas industry is a high-risk industry because its work is usually carried out in areas that have high-risk work hazard issues, causing this industry to be very prone to work accidents. Work accidents affect individuals and organizations and efforts to reduce them are needed. One of the factors that cause work accidents is mental health. In the oil and gas industry, employee work capacity is maximized to achieve increased company productivity. However, this can actually cause excessive mental workload for employees so that it can cause work accidents so that company productivity can ultimately be disrupted. In this job, employees who work in isolated locations because they are on offshore platforms so that they are involved in long-term work situations that can cause mental and emotional fatigue, resulting in burnout. Therefore, this research was conducted with the aim of analyzing and identifying the influence of mental workload and burnout on safety behavior. In conducting this study, researchers used several approaches from mental workload, burnout and safety behavior to be analyzed using the partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) method with SMART PLS software. The results of the tests that have been carried out, in the roster system 2 week and 3 week with 3 hypotheses each, it is found that mental workload has a significant effect on burnout, mental workload has a significant negative effect on safety behavior, and burnout has a significant negative effect on safety behavior. All hypotheses are accepted with t-statistic values > 1.96 and P values <0.05. Based on the results obtained from the comparative analysis of the roster system, it is concluded that the 2 week roster system is better than 3 week. This research can also provide information to companies regarding the level of mental workload, burnout and its relationship with safety behavior and recommendations for policies or programs for companies to minimize the risk of accidents by paying attention to the mental health aspects of employees.
