Abstract

According to the 2023 statistical report released by the Central Statistics Agency of Indonesia, during the period from 2012 to 2022, the number of passenger cars in Indonesia increased by 6.74 million units, or grew by 65%. Considering this situation, with an increasing number of passenger cars, there will also be a higher demand for automotive components. PT. Koko Metal International is one of the manufacturing companies capable of producing automotive components. One of the automotive components consistently produced by the company every month is the upper stay model of the CTR BGK120547D automotive safety belt, ordered by PT. Sungwo. PT. Koko Metal International always strives to meet consumer demands with high-quality products. The company identifies product quality visually, distinguishing between defective and non-defective items. However, in-depth process capability analysis has not been conducted before. A statistical method that can be used to control and assess the quality of the production process is the p-chart, as the number of defective units with a constant sample size needs to be examined. To identify the factors causing product nonconformity, a cause-and-effect diagram can be analyzed. The data source used is the inspection results at each production process. The data collected include defective product data during the period from January 2021 to December 2022, with the variable being the quantity of defective products. The process is said to be capable if the process is statistically controlled and has a process capability index of more than one. Capable production processes in phase I include cutting, piercing, punching, bending 1, and bending 2. In phase II, capable processes include cutting, punching, and bending 2. Meanwhile, the processes that are not capable are welding processes in phase I, as well as piercing, bending 1, and welding processes in phase II. The factors causing product defects are environmental factors, methods, materials, human factors, and machines. However, the main cause of product defects is human factors. Operators are less meticulous and less attentive to cleanliness when operating machines.
