Abstract

The region in Indonesia itself is an archipelagic region where one of the most important parts of the archipelagic region is the coastal and coastal areas. Mangroves in the East Coast area of Surabaya make an important contribution to the balance of coastal ecosystems and have a major impact on the welfare of local communities. In maintaining mangrove ecosystems in coastal areas, remote sensing technology can be used to obtain information about the distribution and density of mangroves. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the distribution and density of mangroves on the East Coast of Surabaya. In this research, we propose the use of Sentinel Satellite Imagery and Multi Spectral Index which are useful as references for the distribution and density of mangroves. The Spectral Index used in this research is NDMI (Normalized Difference Mangrove Index) MI (Mangrove Index), MVI (Mangrove Vegetation Index), CMRI (Combined Mangrove Recognition Index). Spectral indices that are considered to have a good level of classification suitability are CMRI and NDMI with an Overall Accuracy value of 93.3% and a Kappa Coeficient of 86.67% for CMRI and an Overall Accuracy of 96.67% and a Kappa Coeficient of 91.67% for NDMI. The sparse mangrove area itself has an area of around 640 ha, the medium mangrove area has an area of around 348, while the dense mangrove area itself has an area of 1200 ha and finally the non-mangrove area itself has an area of around 644 ha.
