Abstract

Onion crop production is prone to a decrease in quantity and quality of production of up to 30-40% due to disease attacks by fungi that damage shallots during storage in the warehouse. So, it is necessary to control and monitor the storage of onions so that the production of shallot plants can be increased optimally. Relative humidity control is based on SMS-structured optical fibers coated with PVA polymer and rGO as sensors. PVA polymer is often used as a coating material that can protect optical fibers from damage due to environmental components. The rGO material with its high strength and outstanding transparency, allows it to absorb and transmit light with better efficiency. The effect of adding PVA and rGO polymer coatings on optical fibers was analyzed using OSA to detect relative humidity in the interval 50 - 70%RH with an increase of every 4% using a light source with a wavelength of 1550 nm. The results showed the largest wavelength and intensity shifts of 0.308 nm/%RH and 0.461 dBm/%RH for the SMS system with rGO coating, respectively. The wavelength and intensity sensitivity values were 14.6 and 3.8 times greater than the sensor without coating, respectively. The sensor test with PVA coating experienced a blue shift, while the sensor with rGO coating showed a red shift.
