Abstract

Scrapping is the process of collecting metal materials that are no longer usable or needed. One industry that generates metal waste is the shipping industry. The scrapping process involves hazardous equipment and poses a risk of accidents. Risk analysis is conducted to control the potential and impact of risks that may occur during the scrapping process. This study analyzes the risks in the scrapping process at a ship recycling yard located on the coast of Bangkalan Madura. The method used to identify and assess risks is hazard identification and risk assessment, which can evaluate dominant risks from various work activities. The dominant risks in the scrapping process include rope breakage during ship installation with a risk value of 15, fires during fuel tank cleaning with a risk value of 16, and workers slipping during the ship pulling process with a risk value of 15. Fault tree analysis is used to determine the main causes of failures and their probabilities. Rope breakage has a probability of 0.23043, primarily due to poor worker coordination. Fires have a probability of 0.10205, mainly due to worker negligence. Worker slips have a probability of 0.17272, primarily due to lack of focus. Bowtie analysis is a risk control method that provides preventive measures and mitigation efforts. An example of a preventive measure is regular inspections, while a mitigation effort includes providing spare ropes to prevent work delays.
