Abstract

The popularity of e-wallets has opened up opportunities for modernizing payments, financial inclusion, and advancing digital economies. This trend is evident from the increased usage of digital payments and services by the public. Consequently, e-wallets play a crucial role in accelerating digital transformation and promoting more inclusive and sustainable economic growth. Despite the potential, e-wallet adoption in Indonesia remains suboptimal and relatively low compared to some other countries. Therefore, e-wallet service providers need to make efforts to boost e-wallet growth. In this endeavor, formulating strategies based on factors influencing users’ behavioral intentions becomes essential. By understanding and addressing barriers while reinforcing the factors that impact user intentions, companies can significantly enhance e-wallet adoption. The main objective of this research is to modify a model based on a previous study by extending the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model. In this modification, we introduce two additional variables: Perceived Risk and Perceived Trust. The study aims to identify factors that influence the Behavioral Intention of e-wallet users and analyze the relationship between Behavioral Intention and Use Behavior. The analysis focuses on active e-wallet users in Indonesia, with the goal of providing recommendations to enhance e-wallet Use Behavior. This research utilizes literature review articles to design a questionnaire and collect data from e-wallet users in Indonesia aged 17-35 years. A total of 244 respondent data points were processed. Data analysis employed the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method using SPSS and Smart PLS, including tests for the outer model, inner model, and hypotheses. The research reveals that Use Behavior is significantly influenced by Behavioral Intention (β = 0.420), as well as by Satisfaction and Facilitating Conditions. Additionally, Behavioral Intention is significantly affected by Perceived Enjoyment, Mobile Self-Efficacy, Facilitating Conditions, Perceived Trust, Effort Expectancy, and Perceived Risk. Notably, Perceived Risk has a negative impact, indicating that higher perceived risk leads to lower intentions to use e-wallets. On the other hand, Social Influence does not significantly affect Behavioral Intention. It is hoped that the results of this research can be used as a reference for further studies related to the Behavioral Intention and Use Behavior of e-wallet users. Additionally, this study provides insights for e-wallet service providers and the Indonesian government, enabling them to develop effective strategies to promote e-wallet adoption and drive sustainable growth.
