Abstract

Changes in coastlines can be caused by abrasion, erosion and accretion. Where the main causes of this are waves, wind and currents. When waves move towards the coast, they will undergo a transformation which then generates currents near the coast. Currents moving along the coastline will move sediment, causing changes in the coastline. Samboja District, located in Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan, is experiencing significant coastline changes due to abrasion and accretion influenced by waves, wind and sea currents. This process is caused by several natural factors such as wave height reaching 1,570 m and the highest current speed of 0.47 m/s. Changes in coastlines can also be caused by human factors such as industry, shipping routes, and reclamation. By using satellite imagery, changes in coastlines can be determined using the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) and using several methods such as SCE, NSM, EPR, and LRR. Using this method on the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS), it shows variations in changes in the coastline between experiencing accretion or abrasion over a period of 20 years (2002, 2007, 2012, 2017, and 2022) along the coast of Samboja District. Predictions of future coastline changes rely on the 1984 CERC formula, with a prediction period for coastline changes over the next 10 years (2022-2032). Validation of coastline prediction calculation results using Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) with a value of 5%, indicates significant changes in the future and needs to be anticipated.
