Abstract

Glagah-Congot Beach, located near Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA), faces significant challenges due to sedimentation and erosion influenced by the substantial longshore current along the southern coast. To address these issues, local authorities have planned the construction of groins as a form of coastal protection. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the groin construction in managing sedimentation and coastal morphology changes through several scenarios. The analysis results show that the dominant sedimentation rate directs westward with a value of 210,074.85 m³/year under existing conditions, while scenarios 1, 2, and 3 result in sedimentation rates of 215,517.25 m³/year, 282,028.26 m³/year, and 213,569.12 m³/year, respectively, at Glagah-Congot Beach. Scenario 3 proves to be the most optimal option, as it effectively reduces the erosion volume at Glagah-Congot Beach by 14.2% and manages the sedimentation rates at the mouths of Bogowonto River and Serang River effectively. This research is crucial for providing insights into sustainable coastal management strategies in vulnerable areas like those surrounding YIA.
