Abstract

Since long ago, hydrogen gas has been used in chemical synthesis, including the production of fertilizers, ammonia, and other petrochemical industries. As a result, the demand for hydrogen has increased every year. Unfortunately, the production of hydrogen gas is considered environmentally unfriendly and a source of pollution for the world. Therefore, simulations and analyses of low-emission hydrogen plants are necessary as a step towards creating a green industry that does not harm nature. Among various clean methods available, the electrolysis process was chosen because of its simplicity and ease of application in the industry. The Solid Oxide Electrolyzer Cell (SOEC) type was selected for the electrolyzer as the main equipment due to its economical electricity consumption compared to other electrolyzers. This plant will be established with a capacity of 91.550,57 Tons/Year in East Kalimantan, which is known for its large fertilizer industry. The main process of this plant is divided into three main sections: the pre-treatment unit, the electrolysis unit, and the purification unit. Based on economic calculations, the capital expenditure (CAPEX) is Rp 20.796.857.006.246,10 and the annual operational expenditure (OPEX) is Rp 6.952.440.760.904,52. The plant is estimated to operate for 15 years with a loan repayment period of 12 years. From this estimate, an IRR value of 15,04 % and a positive NPV of Rp. 175.770.076.567.021,00. were obtained. Therefore, this hydrogen plant is feasible to be established both technically and economically.
