Abstract

Trees in the ITS Student Dormitory area have an important functional and aesthetic role which is obtained when the physical condition of the trees is healthy or good. Poor physical condition of trees can cause material and immaterial losses due to falling trees. This research was conducted to carry out an inventory of the species and health levels of trees in ITS student dormitories, so that the results can be used as a reference in handling trees to minimize the problem of fallen tree status. Sample observations were carried out using the census method, namely by analyzing all existing trees. The trees observed were those with a trunk diameter of >10 cm, measured by diameter at breast height (DBH) at a height of >130 cm. Determining tree health is carried out using the Forest Health Monitoring (FHM) method which includes characterization of physical damage to trees, including the location of the damage, type of damage and its severity, from roots to leaves, at the individual tree level. The results of the observations are included in the tree damage index value which is grouped into four tree health categories, namely healthy, lightly damaged, moderately damaged, and heavily damaged. The research results showed that there were 317 trees from 26 species, 22 genera and 12 families. Of all the trees observed, 310 trees were in the healthy category, and 6 others were in the light damage category, and there were no trees in the moderate and heavy damage categories.
