Abstract

In this study, an analysis of the characteristics of DC series electric arcs was carried out. Series electric arc experiments were carried out using variations in cable impedance and variations in electrode gap with varying PV power values. The cable lengths used are 25 meters and 50 meters. Meanwhile, the gap variation is 0.04 mm; 0.06mm; and 0.08mm. When an electric arc occurs, data is obtained on the electric arc current, electric arc voltage and PV voltage. By varying the cable impedance from the processed current and voltage data, the values for arc current, arc voltage, arc resistance and arc power are obtained. By varying the electrode gap, values for arc duration and arc power are obtained. Apart from that, the phenomenon of DC electric arcs was also analyzed using the Pulse Sequence Analysis (PSA) method to determine the pattern of dots under normal conditions and arc conditions. Pulse Sequence Analysis (PSA) method processing produces a PSA pattern when under normal conditions the point plot of PSA processing does not have a distribution of magnitude points with a pattern that leads to conditions where ∆i is close to 0. This is because under normal current conditions, the current wave tends to be constant. Meanwhile, the PSA pattern in electric arc conditions shows that when in electric arc conditions it produces a distribution in ΔI. This is because in electric arc conditions there is a decrease in the current wave when an arc occurs so that the magnitude distribution is greater which is a sign of an electric arc. From this research, the results obtained were a decrease in arc current values, an increase in arc voltage, an increase in arc resistance and an increase in arc power in each experiment with variations in cable impedance. In varying the electrode gap, the results obtained are that the larger the gap, the longer and greater the arc duration and arc power respectively
