Abstract

Hydrochloric acid (HCl) is an inorganic acid with various applications in the industrial sector. Demand for HCl consumption continues to increase both in global and
national markets. In Indonesia, demand for HCl imports has reached an average of 2691,905 tons/year in the last eight years. To meet national needs and reduce imports, it is
planned to build a 37% HCl plant with a capacity of 41,000 tons/year for 330 days per year. The primary raw materials used in the HCl production process are salt (NaCl) and
sulfuric acid (H2SO4), with side products sodium sulfate (Na2SO4). This factory is planned to build in Gresik Regency area, East Java. The location for this factory construction has been examined using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method based on a number of parameters. The choice of the Mannheim Furnace Process as a method for HCl
synthesis was also determined through selection by comparing raw material factors, reactor type, process temperature, and yield from several existing HCl synthesis processes.
In the Mannheim Furnace Process, the reaction will occur in temperature of 840℃, an easier process flow, only requiring five units of primary production equipment, and a yield
of 98%. From this factory economic evaluation study, it was concluded that the estimated capital (CAPEX) was IDR 808.982.082.975; operational costs (OPEX) of IDR 414.026.802.018. Based on the economic analysis, it can be concluded that a hydrochloric acid plant with a capacity of 41.000 ton/year is economically feasible to build. Based on
the economic analysis of this factory, the rate of return on investment (IRR) was obtained at 14,36% with a loan interest of 6,75% per year. Payback period (POT) for 8,17 years.
The Break-Even Point (BEP) value is 48,01% and the NPV obtained is also positive, namely IDR 338.932.186.902. From the feasibility analysis data above, it is concluded that
this factory is profitable and feasible to establish.
