Abstract

Dalam beberapa tahun terakhir, industri video game di Indonesia telah mengalami pertumbuhan yang pesat. Pada tahun 2022, Indonesia menjadi negara ke-4 yang memiliki pasar video game terbesar di dunia berdasarkan unduhan App Store and Google Play, sehingga menjadikannya sebagai negara dengan jumlah pengguna video game yang sangat potensial. Fenomena ini diiringi dengan semakin banyaknya pengembang video game di Indonesia dengan perkiraan 1000 pengembang video game lokal yang aktif saat ini. Survei oleh Kominfo menunjukkan pemain video game di Indonesia memiliki pandangan positif terhadap video game buatan lokal. Akan tetapi, pengembang video game lokal hanya menyumbang sekitar 1,2 persen dari total video video game online yang dimainkan di Indonesia. Penguatan talenta sumber daya manusia pengembang video game menjadi salah satu faktor penting untuk mengoptimalkan potensi industri video game Indonesia di masa depan. Dengan memberikan pemahaman proses kreatif secara mendalam, maka proses pengembangan video game dapat menjadi lebih optimal sehingga kualitas video game lokal buatan Indonesia menjadi lebih baik dan diminati. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji proses kreatif dalam pengembangan video game di Indonesia. Metode yang digunakan dalam studi proses kreatif game developer di Indonesia merujuk pada metode Design Thinking yang terdiri dari lima tahap yaitu empathize, define, ideate, prototype, dan test. Penerapan Design Thinking dimulai dengan pengambilan data melalui wawancara terhadap sejumlah pengembang video game dan tenaga pendidik perguruan tinggi yang berpengalaman dalam pengembangan video game di Indonesia. Pada tahap define data wawancara akan diolah dan dibandingkan dengan proses kreatif pengembangan video game yang sudah ada. Tahap ideate dan prototyping digabungkan agar dapat segera membuat prototipe dari ide-ide yang muncul. Kemudian pada tahap testing, framework tersebut akan diuji coba terhadap beberapa pengembang video game. Hasil penelitian ini juga dapat menjadi dasar untuk penelitian lebih lanjut dalam bidang ini dan memberikan wawasan berharga bagi pengembangan video game di Indonesia.

In recent years, the video game industry in Indonesia has experienced rapid growth. In 2022, Indonesia ranks as the 4th country with the largest video game market globally based on downloads from the App Store and Google Play, making it a country with a highly potential user base for video games. This phenomenon is accompanied by an increasing number of video game developers in Indonesia, with an estimated 1000 active local video game developers currently. Survey by Kominfo indicate that video game players in Indonesia have a positive view of local video games. However, despite this significant potential, local video game developers contribute only about 1.2 percent to the total online video games played in Indonesia. Strengthening the talent and human resources of video game developers is one of the crucial factors to optimize the potential of the gaming industry in Indonesia in the future. By providing a deep understanding of the creative process, the video game development process can become more optimal, resulting in better quality and more appealing for Indonesian local video games. This research aims to examine the creative process in video game development in Indonesia. The method used in the study of the creative process of game developers in Indonesia refers to the Design Thinking method, consisting of five stages: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. The application of Design Thinking begins with data collection through interviews with a number of video game developers and experienced educators in universities involved in video game development in Indonesia. In the define stage, interview data will be processed and compared with the existing creative process in video game development. The ideation and prototyping stages are combined to quickly create prototypes from the emerging ideas. Subsequently, in the testing stage, the framework will be tested with several video game developers. The results of this research can also serve as a basis for further studies in this field and provide valuable insights for the development of video games in Indonesia.
