Abstract

Electrical power protection systems are a crucial component in maintaining the reliability and safety of electrical system operations. Disturbances such as short-circuit currents can cause the release of energy in the form of arc flash, which has the potential to damage equipment and even threaten human safety. Therefore, it is important to understand the factors that influence the hazard level of arc flash caused by short-circuit currents. The challenge is how to accurately and effectively optimize and evaluate the coordination of electrical equipment protection to reduce the hazards posed by arc flash during short-circuit disturbances in the power system. This research utilizes a method of evaluating time setting coordination on protective relays, particularly Overcurrent Relays. The study involves analyzing the characteristics of the power system, the connected loads, and the equipment used to determine the most effective time settings. Measurements of arc flash energy and protective relay response times will be used to evaluate system performance. The research aims to identify how to adjust the response time settings of protective relays to achieve optimal safety levels without compromising the overall performance and reliability of the power system at PT Semen Indonesia Tuban Plant. From the evaluation of protection coordination, it was found that the relays operated according to standards and were able to protect key equipment such as motors, loads, transformers, and sources. The results of the energy incident simulations for each bus categorized the hazard in category 3.
