Abstract

Generally, columns are made from conventional concrete materials, which present several
concerns such as long construction times, significant residual material production, and
challenging quality control. Precast concrete systems, however, are manufactured at a fabrication
site where both quality and consistency can be more effectively managed. The key to successful
precast concrete manufacturing lies in the design of the connections. Numerous studies have
examined monolithic reinforced concrete structures under seismic effects. The pocket connection
system is a type of column-foundation connection used in precast concrete structures. It involves
embedding column sections (with specific embedded lengths) into a foundation cavity, which is
then filled with cast-in-place concrete.
The aim of this research is to model high-quality precast concrete columns using a pocket
connection system, modifying the embedded length and the quality of column reinforcement
according to SNI 2052:2017. The modeling involves subjecting the columns to both axial loads
and lateral cyclic loads. The results indicate that, for axial loads, the CB1 model with an
embedded length of 640 mm has a greater load capacity compared to the CB2 model with an
embedded length of 800 mm. However, for lateral cyclic loads, the CB2 model with an embedded
length of 800 mm demonstrates better energy dissipation compared to the CB1 model with an
embedded length of 640 mm.
