Abstract

History is a mandatory subject for all high school students in Indonesia. However, research has shown that a majority of students experience difficulty with this subject that is caused by factors such as conventional educational media that does not support the learning process which leads to a low-level interest in the subject being taught. In this research, the writer suggests digital comic as an alternative educational media option. The comic being made is a digital comic with an endless vertical-scrolling format that is being targeted towards Year 10 high school students that use the Merdeka Curriculum with the subject of The Beginning and Development of the Hindu-Buddha Religion in Indonesia. The aim of this research is to educate Year 10 students about the Hindu-Buddha Civilization and to provide an effective educational media that is well-suited to the students' needs. The methods being used to collect information are literature study, existing media study, in-depth interview with the stakeholder, comic expert, and high school history teacher, a questionnaire aimed towards high school students, and an experimental study that is then used as a survey to the target audience. The end result of this research are three episodes of a digital comic titled 'Kitab Charaka' which has a genre of adventure-comedy and subgenre of isekai. The history material is executed by way of six different types of scenes which are Establishing, Transportation, Discussion, Flashback, Present Day Memory, and Explanation, as well as a summary of the materials presented in the end of every episode.
