Abstract

The Trengguli-Kudus Road, which is located on the Pantura (North Coast) route and is one of the main routes for mobilization on Java Island, has repeatedly suffered damage even after being repaired. This study aims to identify the subsurface condition and distribution of damage on the road, precisely at KM 39+850. The geophysical method used is 2D Resistivity with Wenner-Schlumberger configuration and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) on asphalt pavement (flexible pavement). Secondary data in the form of drill data (BH-02) and pit test results were used as validation in interpretation. The number of 2D Resistivity method lines consisted of 2 West-East lines with a length of 60 m and 9 lines for GPR. The GPR line consists of 7 transverse lines in the North-South direction with a length of 11 m with a distance of 10 m between lines and 2 longitudinal lines in the West-East direction with a length of 60 m. The results of this study show that the research location based on resistivity data validated by drilling consists of sand and gravel lithology, clayey silt, dense clay, and soft clay. The dominance of clay is predicted to be the weak zone that causes road damage at the study site. Some of the damage types identified based on the GPR cross-sections validated by the pit test results and field conditions are rutting in the asphalt layer, distortion in the class B aggregate layer to the native soil, cracking in the asphalt layer - class B aggregate, and settlement in the class B aggregate layer - native soil. This settlement is also supported by the position of the clay in the 3D resistivity incision which appears to decrease towards the south, which strengthens the suspicion of material movement towards the river.
