Abstract

The current business climate is characterized by intense competition, requiring companies to make changes and innovative breakthroughs to compete in the global market. PT Berlian Group, an industry specializing in cleaning tools, produces brooms under the Berlian brand. This research aims to identify waste in the production floor and implement lean manufacturing and value stream mapping. Waste identification was conducted using questionnaires and analyzed with the fishbone diagram method. The research continued with process activity mapping to assess production time usage. The next step was to create a future state map plan integrated with cost calculations based on production activities. Analysis results showed that non-value-added (NVA) activities accounted for 88.7%, while value-added (VA) activities were only 10.7%. Necessary but non-value-added (NNVA) activities had the lowest proportion at 0.6%. From the weighting, four types of waste were identified: waiting at 28%, defects at 26%, overproduction at 14%, and unnecessary inventory at 12%. One batch of production, the company required a cost of Rp 5,256,000. After the improvement process, costs were reduced by 22% to Rp 4,105,200. The implementation of lean manufacturing proved effective in reducing waste and lowering production costs, enabling PT Berlian Group to increase efficiency and competitiveness in the global market. This effort not only helps the company reduce costs but also improves the overall production process, creating higher quality products in a more efficient manner.
