Abstract

Disc brake is a crucial component in modern vehicle systems, providing efficient deceleration and enhanced heat absorption, with the basic principle being that the disc rubs directly against the brake pads. This results in the mass of the disc being reduced. This study analyzes the effect of tempering temperature variation on the hardness, microstructure, and wear resistance of AISI 410 steel used for the application of 2 kW electric motor disc brake. The research was conducted through a series of hardening and tempering experiments on AISI 410 steel. The temperature used during the austenitization process is 1050oC with a holding time of 1 hour with water quenching media and various controlled tempering temperatures, namely at 469oC, 492oC, and 519oC, each carried out for 1 hour with air quenching media. After the heat treatment process, AISI 410 steel was subjected to hardness testing, metallography testing, pin-on-disc tribometry testing, and X-Ray Diffraction testing to determine the hardness value, microstructure, and wear resistance of AISI 410 steel. The results of the best hardness value and wear resistance of tempering results are found in specimen T469 which has gone through the tempering process with a temperature of 469oC with a value of 38.2 ± 0.66 HRC and 34022.456 m/mm3, respectively. This proves that the hardness value is directly proportional to the wear resistance value. The higher the hardness value, the better the wear resistance value. The microstructure of AISI steel is influenced by the heat treatment given, in hardening specimens the results of the quenching process have a martensite phase, while the specimens resulting from the tempering process have a tempered martensite phase. Of the three specimens, specimens T469 that went through the tempering process with temperatures of 469oC have brake emission values below the Indonesian emission factor regulation limit and PM European Emission, with the value of 53.86515 mg/km.

Disc brake atau rem cakram merupakan komponen krusial dalam sistem kendaraan modern, yang memberikan kemampuan perlambatan yang efisien dan penyerapan panas yang ditingkatkan, dengan prinsip dasar di mana cakram akan bergesekan langsung dengan bantalan rem. Hal itu mengakibatkan massa dari cakram akan berkurang. Penelitian ini menganalisi pengaruh variasi suhu tempering terhadap nilai kekerasan, mikrostruktur, dan ketahanan aus baja AISI 410 yang digunakan untuk pengaplikasian disc brake motor listrik 2 kW. Penelitian dilakukan melalui serangkaian percobaan hardening dan tempering pada baja AISI 410. Suhu yang digunakan saat proses austenisasi yaitu 1050oC dengan holding time 1 jam dengan media quenching air dan berbagai suhu tempering yang dikontrol, yaitu pada suhu 469oC, 492oC, dan 519oC, masing-masing dilakukan selama 1 jam dengan media quenching udara. Setelah proses perlakuan panas, baja AISI 410 dilakukan proses pengujian kekerasan, pengujian metalografi, pengujian pin-on-disc tribometry, dan pengujian X-Ray Diffraction untuk menentukan nilai kekerasan, mikro struktur, dan ketahan aus baja AISI 410. Hasil nilai kekerasan dan ketahanan aus terbaik pada spesimen hasil tempering terdapat pada spesimen T469 yang telah melalui proses tempering dengan suhu 469oC dengan masing-masing nilai 38,2 ± 0.66 HRC dan 34.022456 m/mm3. Hal tersebut membuktikan bahwa nilai kekerasan berbanding lurus dengan nilai ketahanan ausnya. Semakin tinggi nilai kekerasannya, semakin bagus nilai ketahanan ausnya. Struktur mikro baja AISI dipengaruhi oleh perlakuan panas yang diberikan, pada spesimen hardening hasil proses quenching memiliki fasa martensit, sedangkan spesimen hasil proses tempering memiliki fasa tempered martensite. Dari ketiga spesimen, spesimen T469 yang melewati proses tempering dengan suhu 469oC memiliki nilai brake emission dibawah batas regulasai faktor emisi Indonesia dan PM European Emission yaitu 53,86515 mg/km.
