Abstract

High Feed Machining (HFM) is one of the machining techniques that is gaining increasing attention. The application of HFM can be implemented in high feed milling, which aims to remove chips in the shortest possible time using a very high feed rate. The main factors in the high feed milling process are the combination of high feed-per-tooth and low depth of cut. Based on this background, this research uses the experimental method by varying the radial depth of cut, high feed rate against HSS type tool wear and Al6061 workpiece surface toughness, as well as the distance or percentage of measurement. The radial depth of cut variations were 10%, 12.5%, and 15% of the tool diameter, 10 mm with 2 flutes. The feed rates used were 2808 mm/min, 2875 mm/min, and 2942 mm/min. The cutting speed was 150 m/min. The experimental data was statistically analysed through ANOVA and regression. FPT, RDOC, and Ap percentage range have a significant influence on tool wear with a 5% confidence level. The effect of FPT was 24.1%, RDOC was 7.4%, and Ap range was 25.3% on tool wear. FPT, RDOC, and distance from the collet have a significant effect on surface roughness with a 5% confidence level. The effect of FPT is 27.8%, RDOC is 9.2%, and distance from the collet is 35.9% on surface roughness.
