Abstract

Climate change is worsening due to the increasing concentration of greenhouse gases (GHGs) such as CO2 and CH4 necessitating integrated adaptation and mitigation actions within industries, one of which is decarbonization using Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) technology. CCUS technology is applied in the oil and gas industry located at the Central Processing Plant (CPP) Donggi. A feasibility study and cost analysis on the application of CCUS technology is yet to be conducted, making further analysis necessary for integration into the operations and characteristics of the CPP Donggi. This study is a strategic plan to enhance sustainability and reduce the carbon footprint of CPP Donggi.
The method involves identifying all emission-generating activities from CPP Donggi operations, conducting an inventory of GHG emissions according to the 2021 American Petroleum Institute standards, and analyzing the feasibility and suitability of implementing CCUS technology through risk assessment involving expert judgment. This study is further deepened by evaluating the operational cost approach of implementing CCUS technology suitable for CPP Donggi operations.
The study results indicate an emission inventory of 7,753 tons of CO2-eq/year or 365.35 tonnes CO2-eq per TJ, with the highest carbon emission facilities being the Gas Turbine Generator (GTG), Acid Gas Removal Unit (AGRU), and oil heater. The analysis states that post-combustion carbon capture technology using Chemical Absorption can be implemented in CPP Donggi operations with a low to moderate risk level and a potential to capture 4,703 tons of CO2-eq/year. The operational cost for technology CCUS is estimated to be around $58,66 per ton of CO2. The research findings are expected to contribute to decarbonization strategies and support climate change mitigation efforts.
