Abstract

Natural fiber in Indonesia is one of the commodities whose consumption rate is still 20% per year compared to its production which reaches more than 70 thousand tons annually. Natural fiber waste in Indonesia is mostly from agricultural waste and is still minimally utilized. The fiber decortication process which only produces 3-8% fiber yield makes using natural fiber as a raw material still not varied because it is only limited to producing paper and gunny sacks. This makes it necessary to combine it with products such as watches that generally have high value and are owned by the community. With the development of the product design industry, the exploration of materials has become diverse, resulting in more than 10 local brands making sustainable watch products. Thus, watches with batik motives-integrated fiber waste materials have good prospects. This design aims to create a unisex batik watch product that utilizes natural fiber waste as raw material to help preserve batik and increase the level of consumption of natural fiber and natural fiber waste. Using a design method that begins with data collection through Interviews, questionnaires, Customer Journey Mapping, and DRnO, the data will then be processed through Affinity Diagram analysis. Other analyses that will support the research and design process include material analysis, part analysis, batik motive analysis, user analysis, and market analysis. Then, continued using digital simulation software and rapid prototyping. The goal achieved in the design is to increase the selling value of natural fiber waste and make watch products made from natural fiber while preserving batik culture.
