Abstract
============================================================
The availability of oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFB) in Indonesia has not yet been fully optimally utilized. One of the potential products that can be produced is pulp. Pulp is the main ingredient in the production of the paper industry. In the pulp production process with the kraft method, fibers from TKKS go through five main stages, namely pre-treatment, pulping, washing, liquor separation, and drying. The first stage is pre-treatment to process the raw material into small fibers that can be processed. Next, a mixture of sodium hydroxide and sodium sulfide (white liquor) is put into the digester containing the pre-treated fibers. The washing process is then carried out using water before liquor separation, Pulp that still contains liquor containing lignin (black liquor) is separated in the liquor separation process so that it can be processed for reuse. Pulp is then dried in the drying process, before being put into storage. The planned pulp mill from TKKS is to be established in the Dumai Industrial Estate, Riau Province. The area was chosen due to the availability of raw materials (TKKS waste) which is very abundant in the area, abundant water availability, adequate electrical energy sources, the number of workers at working age has met, climate and topography are favorable for oil palm plantations, and adequate laws if a factory is built in the area. Meanwhile, from the results of the economic calculation analysis, the IRR is 33%, POT is 3 years and BEP of 52%. Overall, the average %IRR, BEP and POT still indicate that a pulp mill from oil palm empty fruit bunches using the kraft method is feasible.
