Abstract

Rumors are information that is not known to be true and has spread from individual to other individual. The uncontrolled spread of rumors will cause concern among the public because there is information that is not necessarily true. Rumors are often found on social media, both from accounts that follow each other (connected accounts) and accounts that do not follow each other (unconnected accounts). Therefore, efforts are made to control the spread of rumors based on these two types of accounts in the form of emphasizing connected and unconnected accounts with the aim of reducing the population of individuals who spread rumors. In this final assignment, we discuss the modification of the SIMR (Susceptible-Infected-Marketing-Removed) model for spreading rumors on social media based on connected and unconnected accounts, analysis of stability around the equilibrium point, analysis and existence of optimal control. Next, optimal control is solved using Pontryagin’s Minimum Principle and numerical solutions are carried out using the Fourth Order Runge-Kutta method with the help of Matlab. Then, from the analysis of the simulation results, it was found that after controlling the population of individuals who spread rumors both to friends who follow each other (connected accounts) and to other people who do not follow each other (unconnected accounts) will decrease more quickly.
