Abstract

Surabaya adalah kota terbesar kedua di Indonesia setelah Jakarta dan merupakan ibu kota dari Provinsi Jawa Timur. Terletak di pesisir utara Pulau Jawa, Surabaya memiliki peran penting dalam ekonomi, politik, dan budaya di Indonesia. Selain itu, Surabaya juga memiliki destinasi pariwisata yang menarik, salah satunya adalah Pantai Kenjeran yang menjadi tempat rekreasi yang populer. Pantai Kenjeran saat ini dipenuhi oleh limbah cangkang kerang. Fenomena tersebut mempengaruhi citra pantai yang kumuh di Surabaya kerena minim—nya inovasi pemanfaatan limbah cangkang kerang yang mengakibatkan limbah ini berserakan. Penggunaan kulit kerang sering kali terbatas pada perhiasaan rumah atau barang—barang dekoratif dan bahkan dijadikan campuran pakanan ternak untuk hewan. Menghasilkan produk baru dengan memanfaatkan limbah cangkang kerang sebagai bahan baku utama memerlukan inovasi dalam desain. Oleh sebab itu, penulis ingin merancang sebuah produk berupa sanitary set yang menggunakan olahan limbah kulit kerang dengan teknik casting concrete. Produk yang akan dirancang menggunakan industrial design movement, beserta fitur inovasi baru, tidak hanya material tapi juga pada konstruksi material.

Surabaya is the second largest city in Indonesia after Jakarta and is the capital of East Java Province. Located on the north coast of Java Island, Surabaya has an important role in Indonesia's economy, politics and culture. Apart from that, Surabaya also has interesting tourism destinations, one of which is Kenjeran Beach which is a popular recreation spot. Kenjeran Beach is currently filled with shellfish waste. This phenomenon affects the image of dirty beaches in Surabaya because there is a lack of innovation in the use of shell waste which results in this waste being scattered around. The use of seashells is often limited to home decoration or decorative items and even mixed with animal feed for animals. Producing new products by utilizing shellfish waste as the main raw material requires innovation in design. Therefore, the author wants to design a sanitary set that uses processed shell waste using concrete casting techniques. The product will be designed using the industrial design movement, along with new innovative features, not only in materials but also in material construction.
