Abstract
Working Roll merupakan salah satu komponen dari Roller Press Machine yang digunakan untuk menggerakkan material dan mereduksi ukuran material press sesuai dengan kebutuhan. Pada komponen roller sering mengalami kegagalan seperti pada permasalahan yang dikaji saat ini dimana terjadi failure berupa patahan pada bagian holder working roll. Dalam penelitian ini, dilakukan analisis terkait penyebab terjadinya kegagalan pada Holder Working Roll di Eight High Roll Machine PT. X yang bertujuan untuk menganalisis faktor penyebab material mengalami failure dan saran terkait permasalahan ini. Adapun pengujian yang dilakukan seperti uji Komposisi OES, Makrovisual, SEM, Metalografi, dan Uji kekerasan Vickers. Dari hasil uji Komposisi OES, interpolasi atau pendekatan komposisi merujuk pada standar ASTM A295-52100. Berdasarkan pengamatan makrovisual, didapatkan hasil permukaan penampang patahan yang mengindikasikan pola patah fatigue yang terdiri dari crack initiation, crack propagation, dan final rupture. Pada pengujian SEM, terlihat adanya porositas di subsurface dan adanya pola striasi pada hasil patahan sebagai indikasi fatigue. Pada pengujian metalografi, menunjukkan adanya perbedaan mikrostruktur dimana pada material yang gagal struktur tempered martensite terdegradasi secara signifikan dan cementite tidak uniform. Uji kekerasan menunjukkan hasil kekerasan rata-rata yang meningkat pada WR0, WR1, dan WR2 masing-masing sebesar 413.8 HV, 414.3 HV, dan 429.3 HV. Faktor yang menyebabkan terjadinya failure yaitu adanya porositas pada subsurface material, thermal terlokalisasi yang membuat adanya tempering effect sehingga terjadi ketidakseimbangan yang mendorong dispersi karbida berlebih, dan peningkatan unsur pembentuk karbida yang terfokus di batas butir.

Working Roll is one of the components of the Roller Press Machine which is used to move the material and reduce the size of the press material according to needs. The roller component often experiences failures such as in the problem being studied at this time where there is a failure in the form of a fracture in the Working Roll Holder section. In this study, an analysis was carried out related to the causes of failure in the Working Roll Holder at the Eight High Roll Machine PT. X, which aims to analyze the factors causing the material to fail and suggestions related to this problem. The tests carried out include the OES Composition test, Macro visual, SEM, Metallography, and Vickers hardness tests. From the results of the OES Composition test, interpolation or composition approach refers to the ASTM A295-52100 standard. Based on macro visual observations, the results of the fracture cross-section surface were obtained which indicated a fatigue fracture pattern consisting of crack initiation, crack propagation, and final rupture. In SEM testing, there was porosity in the subsurface and a striation pattern in the fracture results as an indication of fatigue. In metallography testing, it showed differences in microstructure where in the failed material the tempered martensite structure was significantly degraded, and the cementite was not uniform. The hardness test showed an increase in average hardness in WR0, WR1, and WR2 of 413.8 HV, 414.3 HV, and 429.3 HV, respectively. Factors causing failure are porosity in the subsurface material, localized thermal that causes a tempering effect so that an imbalance occurs that encourages excessive carbide dispersion, and an increase in carbide-forming elements focused on grain boundaries.
