Abstract

This thesis focuses on developing and testing an innovative overhead lug device for shipbuilding applications, aiming to enhance efficiency and safety in lug installation processes.
It addresses ergonomic and safety challenges from manual handling of heavy objects by designing a moving device and an initial prototype of a docking station. Using the finite element method (FEM) analysis with ANSYS Workbench, the study evaluates the structural integrity of the device, showing acceptable deformation and stress levels. The prototype production and performance tests validated the device's practicality, reliability, and magnetic force capabilities. The research concludes with a successful development of a robust overhead lug device that improves operational efficiency and worker safety, with future recommendations for design optimization and integration of advanced automation and control systems.
