Abstract

Sidoarjo Regency, East Java, will have a population of 2,144,588 people in 2024, which will continue to increase every year. The population of Sidoarjo Regency, which is quite large, produces waste generation of ± 1086 tons/day and continues to increase along with the increase in population, including the urbanization process. Waste management in Sidoarjo Regency is carried out by sorting it at the source, continuing to the temporary waste storage site (TPS), and ending at the Griyo Mulyo Final Processing Site (TPA), which uses refused derived fuel (RDF) technology to process waste into energy. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of waste management using RDF technology at the Griyo Mulyo TPA.
The method used in this research is calculating the generation of waste entering the landfill and the composition of raw materials, as well as analyzing the calorific value, ash content, and water content of waste composition as raw material for RDF and RDF as a product, both in the rainy season and the dry season. As well as comparing test results on samples using the Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) method.
Observations of existing conditions show that the generation of waste entering the Griyo Mulyo TPA is 554 tons/day, or 336.35 kg/m3, with the following compositions: food and garden waste (62.25%), LDPE (9.50%), PET (7.85%), metal (1.5%), and residue (6.82%). The results of the analysis of waste as raw material with the composition Bio Degradable and Degradable in the dry season show the value of sample 1 (25% Bio Degradable and 75% Degradable) of: calorific value 3544.98 Kcal/kg, Ash content 17.34% and water content 27.94%, sample 2 (50% Bio Degradable and 50% Bio Degradable) is: calorific value 3863.52 Kcal/kg, ash content 15.21% and water content 24.41% and sample 3 (75% Bio Degradable and 25% Degradable) amounting to: calorific value of 4124.22 Kcal/kg, ash content of 20.46% and water content of 28.44%, while in the rainy season it shows a sample value of 1 (25% Bio Degradable and 75% Degradable) of : calorific value 2488.12 Kcal/kg, ash content 16.05% and water content 33.24%, sample 2 (50% Bio Degradable and 50% Bio Degradable) is : calorific value 2821.06 Kcal/kg, content ash 18.41% and water content 34.63% while sample 3 (75% Bio Degradable and 25% Degradable) was: calorific value 3041.53 Kcal/kg, ash content 13.62% and water content 37.33%. The test results for the briquette-type RDF product in the dry season had a calorific value of 4684.89 Kcal/kg, an ash content of 14.23%, and an ash content of 8.21%, in accordance with SNI 8966:2021 standards. Meanwhile, briquette-type RDF products during the rainy season do not meet SNI 8966:2021 standards, namely with a heating value of 4216.39 Kcal/kg, an ash content of 18.69%, and a water content of 22.02%. The results of the SPSS analysis show that the variables of waste type, composition, and season have a significant influence on the parameters of calorific value, ash content, and water content.
