Abstract

Indonesia, as a country with significant population growth, ranked as the fourth-largest producer of greenhouse gas emissions in 2015. Rapid population growth has increased the demand for disposable baby diapers, which has a considerable environmental impact. PT Manufaktur Diapers X, one of the leading manufacturers, produces 5.1 billion diapers or the equivalent of IDR 5.79 trillion, generating 223,450.8 tons of CO2 per year, although studies indicate that total emissions reach 466,650 tons of CO2. This study develops a framework combining Lean and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to reduce waste in diaper production. The use of Value Stream Mapping (VSM) helps identify waste, with raw materials such as Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP) and Nonwoven (NW) contributing nearly 70% of total greenhouse gas emissions. The aim of this research is to enhance sustainability in the diaper industry through operational efficiency and environmental considerations. Several implemented solutions include the installation of blowers and covers to reduce dust, regular cleaning of cutting tools, and measurement of core materials before use. Implementing these solutions successfully improved production quality and efficiency, reducing 72% of production issues that caused a loss of approximately 4.472 million pieces. The company should adopt a long-term sustainability strategy that includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving raw material efficiency, and optimizing production processes. Effective communication about sustainability initiatives can strengthen the company's image as a leader in environmentally friendly business practices.
