Abstract

DKI Jakarta, as the capital and a hub for business and government activities, is very dense with various community activities, which can trigger criminal acts based on crime pattern theory. This study explores how the built environment can influence criminal acts to identify parts of the built environment that need more attention to create a safer environment. Using a composite index method, this study assesses the built environment conditions and, through web scraping of crime news, maps the distribution of criminal acts in DKI Jakarta. Crime attractor areas include Kramat Pela, Petogongan, Rawa Barat, and Tebet Timur, while crime generator areas include Jalan Raya Bogor, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, and Jalan Panjang. Negative binomial regression analysis shows that road width, tourist attraction density, and the composite index of the built environment significantly affect the number of criminal acts. These results indicate that improving overall built environment conditions can influence the number of criminal acts in Jakarta.
