Abstract

Maritime transportation encompasses not only trade but also maritime support such as pilot boats. Although its environmental impact is not as significant as cargo ships, it should not be disregarded. Efforts to minimize the use of fossil fuels by transitioning to alternative energy through the conversion of pilot boats from conventional engines to full-electric engines using batteries are crucial. Supporting facilities are needed as charging stations where this study focuses on designing a charging system for ships. The method involves technical calculations to determine the required components and economic feasibility to assess the system's viability. The system design includes transformers, rectifiers, busbars, cables, fuses, and circuit breakers. System 1 utilizes a single transformer, while System 2 employs two transformers in parallel. For charging the 348V battery, 4 connectors with 156.25 A current are required, and for the 48V battery, 4 connectors with 200 A current are needed. The number of connectors required is based on the battery charging time, ranging from 2 to 4 connectors for the 348V battery and 4 connectors for the 48V battery, in accordance with the shorter charging time compared to the vessel's endurance and BKI Rules. Economic analysis reveals that the cost of System 1 is IDR 5,794,832,218 and System 2 is IDR 6,076,792,894. System 1 achieves investment payback in 2.1 years, and System 2 in 2.2 years, with an IRR above 20%, indicating strong prospects. The BCR values for both systems are above 1, indicating that the benefits outweigh the costs. Based on these parameters, both System 1 and System 2 designs are feasible and implementable.
