Abstract

As the largest archipelagic country in the world, Indonesia should have a strong maritime
economy. However, in fact, 53% of our fishermen still live below the poverty line. This has an
impact on the quality of life, health, and education. This phenomenon is interesting to observe
by choosing the Kenjeran Fisherman's Village as an object. A fishing village that has become
a tourism icon in the city of Surabaya. This coast has a strategic location because it is close to
the city center, which should have easy access to development, but on the contrary, The
potential of a strategic location does not correlate closely with guarantees of equality and quality
of life. Therefore, special intervention is needed to adjust it so that development can run
optimally and sustainably. This final project aims to design the interior design of the Sangga
Pesisiran Kenjeran Information and Education Center as an effort to transform the coast based
on local wisdom in the community-based tourism concept. The Kenjeran Coast is one of the
mainstay tourist destinations in Surabaya and has great potential for developing communitybased
tourism. By utilizing local wisdom that has taken root in coastal communities, it is hoped
that the interior design of the Sangga Pesisiran Kenjeran Information and Education Center can
become an educational facility as well as a new tourist attraction. The research methods used
are literature studies, field observations, and analysis of the needs of local communities and the
characteristics of the Kenjeran coast. The proposed design approach integrates elements of local
wisdom and sustainability principles to create a communal space that promotes community
participation and a sustainable experience for tourists. The result of this research is an interior
design for the Sangga Pesisiran Coastal Care Information and Education Center that reflects
local cultural identity, calls for care about coastal sustainability, and strengthens relationships
between local communities and visitors. The research results are in the form of an innovationbased
interior design concept for tourism facilities as a coastal transformation strategy based
on local wisdom, which can be used as a guide for stakeholders involved in developing the
Kenjeran Fisherman's Village to improve the quality of the area towards a sustainable coast.
