Abstract

This study explores the influence of ship movement on the comfort of passengers of the Express Bahari 1C Fast Motor Boat (KMC) connecting Jepara to Karimunjawa, a famoust tourist destination in the Java Sea. Designated as a National Park since 1999, Karimunjawa attracts numerous visitors due to its natural beauty. However, maritime mobility in these waters is often affected by sea wave conditions, impacting the stability and comfort of voyages. The research employs direct measurement methods using sensors to monitor the movement of ships in various conditions. The results showed that the highest ship’s roll velocity occured in the third measurement, which was 0.371 deg/s and the highest roll movement occured in the second measurement reaching angles of 0.245 degrees. Meanwhile, the highest pitch velocity and movement occured in the fifth measurement, which was 0.356 deg/s with a pitch angle of 0.151 degrees. The highest heave acceleration was recorded in the third measurement with a value of 0.664 m/s². Motion Sickness Incidence (MSI) analysis indicates the average MSI percentage at 11.75%. In the context of international comfort standards such as NATO STANAG 4154 and ISO 2631-1:1997, ship movements are assessed based on roll and pitch amplitudes, as well as heave acceleration. These findings highlight the importance of understanding the ship’s response to sea waves to enhance passenger comfort and safety during sea voyages in popular tourism destinations such as Karimunjawa.
