Abstract

============================================================
Kaliurang is a tourism area in Sleman Regency, located on the southern slopes of Mount Merapi, known for its natural and cultural tourism attractions. In the Sleman Regency Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD) for 2021-2026, development is directed towards the smart city concept, where in the tourism aspect, this component is referred to as smart tourism. Kaliurang has become one of the leading tourist areas in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) and Sleman Regency, contributing significantly to Regional Original Revenue (PAD) through the tourism sector. However, there is a disparity in the number of tourist visits to various tourist attractions. According to data from the Sleman Regency Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the number of tourists in Kaliurang reached 919,542 people in 2022 and is expected to continue to increase annually. Therefore, development strategies are needed to enhance the tourism value through the integration of technology, known as the smart tourism concept. This study examines the readiness level for implementing the smart tourism concept in Kaliurang based on its potential and challenges. The method used in this research is rationalistic with a mixmethod approach (qualitative and quantitative), employing several analytical techniques such as Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), qualitative descriptive, content analysis, and Likert scale. The analysis results show that Kaliurang is at a "Ready" level, with all variables (basic infrastructure, tourist attractions, supporting facilities, and ICT infrastructure) assessed as ready for the implementation of the smart tourism concept. However, some sub-variables are still considered not ready, such as transportation, and somewhat ready, such as the sanitation and waste management system. Tourist destinations like Suraloka Interactive Zoo, Kaliurang Park, The World Landmark Merapi Park, and Mount Merapi National Park are included in the "Ready" cluster, while Museum Ullen Sentalu, Bhumi Merapi, Ledok Sambi, and HEHA Forest fall into the "Somewhat Ready" cluster. The development of smart tourism in Kaliurang will focus on improving transportation and the sanitation and waste management systems. Thus, the implementation of smart tourism is expected to enhance the international competitiveness of Kaliurang as a tourist area.
