Abstract

Wakatobi is one of the districts in Southeast Sulawesi that presents the eastern underwater natural attraction which has abundant of cultural and biodiversity. Wakatobi natural species has been exploited by the local fishing community with fishing vessels. As a means of production, fishing vessels must meet eligibility requirements including having good movement stability capabilities and minimum movement resistance. The fishing process also needs to be considered because it will affect the quality of the catch. Good quality fish means better sales with higher prices. This research will be concern in design an innovative fishing vessel to improve the quality of catches, leading to higher fish market value. Purse seine vessel with long voyage duration has been selected to have a maximum catches in one way sail. A purse seine does not come into contact with the seabed therefore minimal seabed damage impact (environmental friendly). The fish will have high pressure freezing treatment to extend the life of stored fish with set the temperature at certain degree due to long voyage (a few weeks sailing). The fish will divide in separate parts by head, a whole fish, and fillet based on market demand. Behind aspiration from this innovative design is to introducing modern fishing vessel and modernization for the local. Also the goal is to meet export standards by frozen fish product, increasing income ultimately. Thereby can help Wakatobi people to gain their economy life and reducing poverty
