Abstract
Teori housing as a verb oleh John F.C.

The theory of "housing as a verb" by John F.C. Turner discusses how the term housing should be viewed as a verb or a process (housing as a process). When considering the housing process, the role of the occupants becomes an essential aspect of the design. Thus, the value of a house depends more on its usage variety or flexibility rather than its physical value. Additionally, when linked to issues such as future housing challenges, flexibility becomes a critical design characteristic to address these challenges. This design employs two concepts of flexible architecture: incremental housing and open building. A pattern-based framework with typology analysis is used to develop this design. From this typology study, patterns were found that describe a rule of architectural element relationships, which then form the basis for organizing building elements. In this design context, the analyzed patterns include not only the overall building patterns but also the room patterns of apartment units, particularly the spatial layout and room zoning patterns. Through this process, a concept for designing low-rise flexible apartment buildings emerged, allowing for horizontal or vertical expansion by applying prefabrication technology. When expansion is not undertaken, design flexibility is achieved through its ability to split or rearrange spaces without adding area (split/rearrange spaces).
