Abstract

Children with Intellectual Disability is a condition where a child has limitations in intellectual and adaptive functions that prevent them from carrying out daily activities. As a result of their limitations, children with intellectual disabilities often have difficulty remembering, distinguishing shapes, colors, or patterns. One of the most significant causes is the unfulfillment of basic sensory in children. This is based on the existence of a connection through sensory experiences that can create a memory and emotion in children. In the design process, the author uses Neuroarchitecture Theory, because of the connection between Neuroscience, Psychology, and Architecture, and applies Sensory Theory as an application to the design. This design focuses on the typology of Special Elementary School to maximize learning and focuses on the application of architectural elements that play a significant role in the development of Intellectual Disability children. Thus, almost all design decisions in the design are based on the comprehension ability of Intellectual Disability children.
