Wayang Orang Sriwedari Surakarta is one of Indonesia's traditional performing arts which faces serious challenges in preserving culture in the modern era. The urgency of preserving through this documentary video is supported by data from bla bla from bla bla showing that the number of viewers of Wayang Orang Sriwedari has decreased by up to 30% after the COVID-19 pandemic.
This research aims to design the production of a documentary film depicting the journey of Wayang Orang Sriwedari as an effort to preserve culture, with a focus on innovation and the role of the younger generation, especially Generation Z, in maintaining the existence of this performing art. The method used in this research is a qualitative method which includes field observations, literature studies, in-depth interviews, and experimental studies. The data collected was processed to produce a documentary film lasting less than twenty minutes, which highlights the role of five film crew professions in the pre-production, production and post-production stages. This film is designed with an observatory approach, showing real events with an informative narrative.
The research results show that innovation in performances and the active involvement of the younger generation through social media plays a very important role in preserving the Sriwedari Wayang Orang. It is hoped that this documentary film can increase public awareness and understanding of the importance of cultural preservation, as well as being an effective educational medium for the wider community.
