Abstract

The oil and gas industry is undergoing a digital transformation, where companies are competing to improve their performance through digital initiatives. PT.X, as an oil and gas company, strives to maintain production sustainability by drilling 29 to 32 exploration wells each year. However, the monitoring of the proposed exploration well business process, or Funneling, has not been carried out effectively and efficiently. The monitoring of business processes and documentation is managed individually and not in real-time. As a result, the approval process for an exploration well can take more than a year, causing drilling targets to be missed, operational preparation to become uncertain, the economic value of the project to decrease, worker motivation to decline, and if not corrected, production will be delayed.
This study aims to improve the decision-making process in Funneling to be faster. The Design Thinking approach was chosen due to the complexity of the problem, its multidisciplinary nature, and the involvement of many users. User needs in both the Holding and Area functions were identified through interviews and Focus Group Discussions, with the main problem being the difficulty in monitoring business processes and documentation. Innovative solutions were generated through creative techniques, resulting in a business process application prototype equipped with tools for progress monitoring, follow-up, and document management. Testing showed positive feedback on the effectiveness and efficiency of the application in accelerating the Funneling process.
