Abstract

Indonesia is an archipelagic country, and Papua, one of its most remote provinces, frequently faces challenges in meeting its food needs. A major issue affecting agricultural productivity and food availability in Papua is the limited supply of clean water. This water scarcity is particularly impactful during prolonged dry seasons when crops often struggle to receive adequate water. To address the food shortages caused by water deficiency, implementing a hydroponic system presents a viable solution. Hydroponics is an indoor cultivation method that uses water rather than soil. This system allows plants to grow efficiently with limited water, as nutrients are directly absorbed through the water. This final project aims to design a barge equipped with a hydroponic system to meet the food and vegetable needs in Papua. By considering the benefits and challenges associated with this application, this research is expected to provide valuable insights for the development of sustainable agriculture and food security in Papua.
