Abstract

The development of feminine space represented in visual arts during the modern era is closely related to feminist theory and art criticism in the late 20th century. Feminism aims to reveal and critique how patriarchal structures influence the representation of women in art and culture. Feminist art often seeks to challenge traditional gender roles and stereotypes through painting and other artistic media. Therefore, criticism of feminism is often demonstrated through works of art, one of which is painting. Frida Kahlo's paintings serve as a case study for the design of the Women's Care Center building, which applies aspects inspired by the painting "The Two Fridas." Using the Narrative Architecture method in its application refers to the process of designing with a focus on conveying narratives or stories. This design examines how visual elements from the painting "The Two Fridas" can be integrated into architectural design that is responsive to the social and historical context of the Gang Dolly location in Surabaya. The narrative reading of the context derived from the painting uses storytelling as a tool in designing the Women's Care Center building. This study concludes that architectural narratives influenced by art can make a significant contribution to creating spaces that empower and advance the role of women in society.
