Abstract

Penerapan Ornamen Maluku hampir dijumpai di setiap gedung, baik di intansi/ perkantoran, lembaga pendidikan maupun fasilitas umum di kota Ambon. Namun, ornamen Maluku jarang ditemui di tempat-tempat ibadah, misalnya di gedung Gereja. Salah satu tempat ibadah yang menerapkan ornamen Maluku ada di Gereja Bukit Doa. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui arti dan makna kehadiran ornamen Maluku di bangunan Gereja Bukit Doa sebagai obyek kasus. Makna ornamen Maluku Siwa Talang adalah sebagai lambang adat (wemale, oiale) yang berpusat pada “matahari”, “bulan”, dan “bumi” sebagai perlambangan subyek tertinggi yaitu kuasa-kuasa Tuhan. Penelitian ini menggunakan mixed metode kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Metode kualitatif melalui wawancara dan kuantitatif melalui kuisioner. Responden wawancara adalah ahli budaya Maluku, Pendeta, dan anggota jemaat. Sedangkan responden kuisioner dari masyarakat sejumlah 62 orang. Fokus teori yang digunakan adalah teori semiotika dengan mengambil variabel penelitian adalah, ornamen, estetika, dan interior. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah beberapa rekomendasi dalam penempatan dan penerapan ornamen Siwa Talang pada Gereja di Maluku. Selain itu, hasil riset ini adalah ditemukannya arti penting keberadaan ornamen Siwa Talang bagi masyarakat Maluku saat ini

The application of Maluku ornaments is found in almost every building, both in agencies/offices, educational institutions and public facilities in the city of Ambon. However, Maluku ornaments are rarely found in places of worship, for example in church buildings. One of the places of worship that applies Maluku ornaments is the Bukit Doa Church. Therefore, this study aims to determine the meaning and significance of the presence of Maluku ornaments in the Bukit Doa Church building as a case object. The meaning of the Maluku Siwa Talang ornament is as a symbol of custom (wemale, oiale) which is centered on the "sun", "moon", and "earth" as a symbol of the highest subject, namely the powers of God. This study uses mixed qualitative and quantitative methods. Qualitative methods through interviews and quantitative methods through questionnaires. Interview respondents were Maluku cultural experts, pastors, and congregation members. While the questionnaire respondents from the community numbered 62 people. The focus of the theory used is semiotic theory by taking the research variables, namely, ornaments, aesthetics, and interior. The results of this study are several recommendations in the placement and application of Siwa Talang ornaments in churches in Maluku. In addition, the results of this research are the discovery of the important meaning of the existence of the Siwa Talang ornament for the Maluku community today.
