Abstract

Ships are the main mode of transportation for transporting various basic needs, around 80% of global trade is transported using ships as sea transportation. The use of ships as a mode of transportation has several environmental issues such as greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions due to the use of fossil fuels. IMO has issued a new regulation through MARPOL Annex VI, the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII), which applies to ships of 5,000 GT and above. The main objective is to reduce CO2 emissions by 40% by 2030. CII is used to evaluate the energy efficiency and carbon intensity of ship operations. In this study, an evaluation of the CII value of a 6640 DWT ship is carried out to be able to improve the CII rating based on the ship's operational pattern. Some analysis of underwater hull cleaning and ship rerouting is carried out on the fuel consumption and CII of the ship. By doing underwater hull cleaning and ship rerouting, the ship can reduce the CII rating from C to B in 2023 for route scenario number 4. In addition, the ship can also save fuel up to 20,1% annually for route scenario number 3.
