Abstract
Perusahaan X merupakan perusahaan fabrikasi mesin cetak paving block yang ada di Surabaya. Namun, masih terdapat beberapa kekurangan pada mesin yang dibuat dikarenakan masih bersifat konvensional atau dioperasikan secara manual. Beberapa kekurangan tersebut seperti masih rentan terjadi kesalahan manusia (human error) dan kurang konsisten saat beroperasi yang dapat berpengaruh pada hasil jumlah produksi. Dari fenomena ini, otomasi sangat penting diterapkan di dunia industri. Oleh karena itu, dengan mengacu pada fenomena di atas maka melalui penelitian ini dibuat sebuah sistem kontrol otomatis pada mesin dengan menggunakan PLC. Dimulai dengan observasi, studi literatur, penentuan input dan output (I/O) pada PLC, perencanaan cara kerja baru, desain panel kontrol baru, penempatan sensor tambahan, pemilihan komponen, desain Human Machine Interface (HMI), desain wiring diagram, dan desain ladder diagram. Tahap berikutnya melakukan implementasi sistem kontrol yang telah direncanakan dan melakukan pengujian operasional mesin yang sudah menerapkan PLC. Hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa PLC berhasil mengembangkan suatu sistem pada mesin untuk dapat bekerja secara otomatis. Lalu, ladder diagram disini menggunakan beberapa instruksi antara lain interlock, timer, counter, dan set reset sesuai dengan cara kerja mesin. Kemudian, sistem kontrol otomatis berbasis PLC memiliki cycle time yang lebih singkat dibandingkan dengan sistem kontrol manual. Cycle time berhasil menurun sebesar 15.4%. Dari penurunan cycle time ini, jika disimulasikan terkait kapasitas produksi, penggunaan sistem kontrol otomatis dapat meningkatkan jumlah produksi per jam sebesar 300 pcs lebih banyak dibandingkan dengan sistem kontrol manual.

Company X is a paving block molding machine fabrication company in Surabaya. However, there are still some shortcomings in the machine made because it is still conventional or manually operated. Some of these shortcomings such as still prone to human error and less consistent when operating which can affect the results of the amount of production. From this phenomenon, automation is very important to be applied in the industrial world. Therefore, by referring to the above phenomenon, through this research, an automatic control system is made on the machine using PLC. Starting with observation, literature study, determination of inputs and outputs (I/O) on the PLC, planning a new way of working, design of a new control panel, placement of additional sensors, component selection, Human Machine Interface (HMI) design, wiring diagram design, and ladder diagram design. The next stage is to implement the planned control system and conduct operational testing of machines that have implemented PLC. The results showed that PLC succeeded in developing a system on the machine to be able to work automatically. Then, the ladder diagram here uses several instructions including interlock, timer, counter, and set reset according to how the machine works. Then, the PLC-based automatic control system has a shorter cycle time compared to the manual control system. Cycle time has decreased by 15.4%. From this decrease in cycle time, if simulated related to production capacity, the use of an automatic control system can increase the amount of production per hour by 300 pcs more than the manual control system.
